What This VAT Calculator Does
This VAT calculator moves an amount from net to gross or from gross to net. In the default direction you type a net amount and the tool adds the tax: it shows the net amount, the VAT and the gross total separately. Switch the direction and you type a gross amount; the tool then extracts the VAT that is already included and shows the net amount it was calculated from. The German standard rate of 19 percent and the reduced rate of 7 percent are available as one-click buttons, and any other rate can be typed into the rate field, for example 8.1. Every amount is rounded to the nearest cent and both 1.234,56 and 1,234.56 are accepted. The tool uses the single rate you choose. It does not prepare a tax return, does not decide which rate applies to your product, and it is not tax advice — for that, ask a tax adviser. Nothing is uploaded: the calculation runs in your browser.
